Lost Houses…

Now that ‘Water & Light’ is almost finished at Heart Gallery, I have been getting on with my Lost Houses project. There’s a separate blog about this here.

I’ll just post the paintings here. But the research and the stories in detail will be on the blog.

So far I have New Cragg Hall, an Arts and Crafts manor house that stood in Cragg Vale for less than 20 years before it was destroyed by fire…

And, more recently, Castle Carr. A grim brass castle in an isolated valley in Luddenden Dean…

The castle is all but disappeared, but the water gardens remain, opened to the public once a year.

There is lots more information about these buildings, along with photos of the remains and exciting finds in the archives, all on the lost houses blog..

  1. I love the lost houses project especially the Castle Carr with the fountain in full spout. We raised a considerable amount of money for Treesposibility in 2001 with the kind owners permission to switch the fountain on. Frank lets charities raise money through the year by organising the water company to come and switch on the fountain on any given date. Part of his agreement when he sold or leased the land to them to build three reservoirs above the area. I’m sure it is open more than a few times a year. The tourist info office used to sell tickets for any event organised I don’t know if they still do be worth checking out. Looking forward to seeing them in the flesh at Banksfield in 2016

  2. Having spoken to you about Oakworth House at the start of your project, I am delighted with the information you have gleaned. As ever your paintings are exquisite and I am thrilled to be going to the eopneing night of the exhibition.

  3. Hi, I really love your style of painting, especially some of the original lost houses. I can’t afford the originals but wondered if any were available as prints? Also do you have a gallery at Hebden Bridge? Thanks Ros Clarke
