After the Rain at Rievaulx (2017)
Original media: Inks, gouache, acrylics, pencils, watercolour, pastel, gold leaf and gold thread
Measures 58cm x 58cm (mounted)
Whilst drawing on a beautiful August day in 2016, I was caught in a sudden downpour and had to take shelter in the little museum (along with lots of other people). After the rain the sun came out and everything took on an over-saturated colour. The greens were incredibly green and the stone seemed to glow. The tiles at the bottom of this painting are all designs taken from the mosaic floor fragments in the museum and hidden in the grass.
