Birdwatching

Birdwatching (2019)

Original media: Inks, gouache, acrylics, coloured pencil, collage, pastel, gold leaf and gold thread.

Painted for ‘Catching the Light', a solo exhibition at Chantry House Gallery.

This is a place my children love to go. Walking from Bolton Abbey there’s a bird hide in the woods high above The Strid. We’ve sat and watched bullfinches, blue tits, coal tits – sometimes 20 at a time. There’s always one Nuthatch, and a large, dapper Pheasant that pokes his head above the parapet and scares all the little birds away. He’s there every time so we’ve named him Sebastian. There’s also a vole in the wall of the hide that will come out for picnic crumbs is you sit very still.
