From Withens Gate (2024)
Original media: Inks, gouache, acrylics, watercolour, coloured pencil, gold leaf and gold thread.
Painted for 'Engineers & Chocolatiers' - a solo exhibition to celebrate Calderdale at Bankfield Museum, 2024.
The Stoodley Pike monument - again. It gets everywhere. But it is everywhere! It’s synonymous with Calderdale, especially with those of us in the Upper Calder Valley. If you can see the pike then you know where you are. This is the view from Withens Gate, sat (with a flask of hot coffee) on some rocks, watching the light change fast. On the left of the picture you can see down towards Lumbutts. To the right and out of sight would be Withens Clough, the Calderdale way and the Coffin trail. Behind is the path that leads eventually to Gaddings Dam. The gold path beneath the monument is the rocky steep track that leads down to London Road.
