Norland Moor (2024)
Original media: Original media: Inks, gouache, acrylics, watercolour, coloured pencil, gold leaf and gold thread.
Painted for 'Engineers & Chocolatiers' - a solo exhibition to celebrate Calderdale at Bankfield Museum, 2024.
Norland Moor is not my bit of Calderdale. I only know it from leg 1 of The Calderdale Relay (Fell Race). It’s a nice flat bit! Followed by the nice descent into Ripponden (followed by a horrible climb up to Mill Bank). My friend took me for a walk up to the moor from Copley, through the woods, past Pickwood Scar. Ladstone Rock sits on the edge of the moor and seems to be a special place for many people; a quiet thinking place, overlooking the green valleys of Rishworth and Ripponden. Of the rock, I’ve heard stories of marriage proposals, wedding photographs, evening walks for bilberry picking, family picnics and of a cat that liked to be walked up there on a lead!
