Esk Out To Sea (2022)

Measures 81.5cm x 37cm (mounted)
I completed this is the middle of summer, but I started it in February half term when we fled the Calder Valley as the roads flooded and headed for the sea! We stayed in Staithes and our rented house had run out of heating oil, so we slept in hats and jumpers. It was bitterly cold, but the skies were blue and the sea sparkling. After climbing the 199 steps to the abbey, I stood at the very edge of the church yard, overlooking the Esk heading out into the North Sea. It was so windy I had to brace myself against a wall - it was a very quick drawing!
