Weeping Birch (2020)
Original media: Inks, gouache, acrylics, watercolour, loose pigment, collage, gold thread, 23 carat gold leaf
Painted as part of The Nightingale Project: a series of trees and nature inspired by lock down in The Calder Valley from March 2020 to March 2021 (and the brief escapes from it over the summer).
I started this painting sat under a weeping birch in Callis Woods in May. I’ve seen a fox here before, its amber eyes caught in the beam of my head torch.
