Jackdaws and Apples (2021)
Original media: Inks, gouache, acrylics, watercolour, loose pigment, collage, gold thread, 23 carat gold leaf
Measures 40.5cm x 50cm (mounted)
Painted as part of The Nightingale Project: a series of trees and nature inspired by lock down in The Calder Valley from March 2020 to March 2021.
This was a tree in an overgrown garden that we discovered on Halloween. We were walking at dusk. The tree was heavy with bright red apples and full of jackdaws. There was an empty swing grown over with ivy. It looked like the setting for some dark fairy tale.
