Autumn Light at Gibson Mill (2020)
Original media: inks, gouache, acrylics, gold leaf and gold thread
This scene, down at Hardcastle Crags, is always lovely, whatever the season and whatever the weather. I walked down there to draw in Autumn 2020, when the leaves were just on the turn. I love the way it smells in autumn – all mulchy leaves and woodsmoke from the mill. The waterfall and the river will be noisy, but the mill pond mirror still. I also turned this little painting into a tea-light lantern so I could turn the lights on inside the mill. Several lovely friends have been married at the mill. It’s a magical place.
