Bridge Lanes (2012)
Original media: Inks, gouache, acrylics, gold leaf and gold thread.
Measures 120cm x 55cm (mounted)
I live on what I thought was the sunny side of Bridge Lanes, part of the main road that runs through Hebden Bridge. On the opposite side the houses appear to be dark and small, and hemmed in by the busy road. But this view, taken on a bright, cold day walking up Horsehold Road shows the backs of the houses, tall, with several stories below road level, bathed in sunshine and with gardens that terrace down to the river. It was trying to capture the colours in the sun warmed stone that started the theme for this exhibition.
